Jasmine losing its leaves

Jasmine planted 3 years ago has always been evergreen and now appears to have lost its foliage except on the top growth?? Heavy soil but sunny spot.  Not sure what to do as was beautiful last year!

Hi and welcome to the forum
It's difficult to tell from the photo what the cause is, but my guess would be the recent very cold snap we've had. The previous 2 winters here were very mild.
Hopefully it's just some cosmetic damage.
As the top looks quite healthy that indicates the plant is still alive, and if the top is alive, then the rest of the plant must be too.
I'd suggest a wait and see approach and hopefully in the next few weeks you'll see some green shots appearing on the bare stems.

Agree, cold weather will kill off the leaves. Not sure which Jasmine you have but assume it is the summer flowering ones. They are normally really semi-evergreen, so the leaves will not usually last for more than a year, so new leaves will re-grow when the weather warms up.

Another common problem with lack of pruning and concentrating on training, you will eventually have most of the leaves wanting to grow at the tips/tops. These plants have the potential to get big, so as the branches near the base thicken, they are more or less unlikely to form leaves. If you really need leaves further down, you will need to regularly prune back or thin out branches after flowering every year. Not only will you form more dense growth, it will also act as protection for cold weather, and the plant is more likely to be more semi-evergreen.
