Escallonia leaf spot - any success stories?

I will cut back and apply a fungicide as mentioned in the RHS website (https://www.rhs.org.uk/advice/profile?pid=108), plus apply mulch and fertiliser, but I wanted to ask if anyone has encouraging stories on successfully treating escallonia leaf spot? What fungal spray did you use?
The escallonia hedge is on a full-sun-in-summer, shade-in-winter spot with clay soil. If it doesn't make it, what alternative hedging plant will work?
