Diseased hellebore

Does anyone have any advice on what might be causing this hellebore to suffer. Just one lone flower that appears, at the minute, to be unaffected?

This is one of the earliest of my hellebores to flower through winter and I had initially hoped that it was just the ravages of the weather, but I’m now concerned it might be Hellebore Black Death?

I can't see what wrong. They look like mine after they have finished flowering, just clear out the dead leaves from around the base cut off the old leaves and flowers and it should grow again, mine have.

Those flowers are fading ... they’ve been pollinated and are forming seed cases in the centre.
What we think of as petals are actually sepals ... they change colour and fade after pollination but stay on the plant until the seeds are ripe.

Yours may have been nibbled a bit by wandering molluscs. 🐌 😊

  • OK, thanks, that's a relief. I'll keep an eye out for the molluscs!
