Transplanting rhubarb plant

I have been offered a mature rhubarb plant that will otherwise be thrown away due to it being in the way of a building project, so I was wondering how best to transport and replant it in my garden.

Can I dig it up in sections, cutting through the thick root, then replant in different places around my garden, or should it be kept as whole as possible?

Would any of it survive if potted up for a while, until I decide where to plant it?

Probably not the best time to me moving its but it's either now or never.

No not ideal time to move it . seen as you are digging it up I'd divide it and keep the vigorous younger growth instead old bits of the crown. Try and take as much root as you can,  Pot it up if you have got anywhere to put it what else can you do . No harvesting this year and maybe no harvesting next year either .
