Growing the rambling rose ‘Albertine’

Hi, we have just been given the rambling rose, Albertine.  It is to grow up a brick wall and we need to grow it in a container. Can you please advise on the support required and which size container should be used. Any other advice gratefully received. Thank you, Julie

    I'm not sure that it's really suitable for a container. Mine is in the ground and goes a good 10 ft along the fence in both directions. It'll probably carry on further this year. It's pretty dense too so it will need good support if  it has nothing to weave through.

    Thank you for your advice. We don’t have anywhere suitable for it to be planted in the ground so I’ll see if it’s possible to exchange it.

    Good luck. 
    Start another thread if you want advice about a suitable rose. There's plenty of knowledgeable rose growers in the forum. Unfortunately,I'm not one of them😊

    I'll just back up what B3 said. I had 3 Albertines planted against a wall about 20m long, they covered it. They are very thorny, if you let a year or two pass without pruning them they are a nightmare. Gorgeous and wonderful scent but only flower once for about 3 weeks. Far too vigorous for a pot. Mine were tied to wires attached to the wall with vine eyes.

    If you are growing a climbing or rambling rose in a pot it will need to be a big pot, minimum 60cm x 60cm. It will need a lot of watering in summer and more feeding than a rose in the ground.
