You do need to take care working at depths in deep holes in case of collapse, currently I'm digging footings by hand at 1400mm deep with no side retainers so should listen to myself 🤣🤣. If the land where the soak away drains so well the other option would be to make the hole wider rather than deeper and get 4 crates side by side, you'd be getting the same storage capacity. I didn't read all of the original thread as Id lose the will to live but hopefully your fully across the cause etc and this will solve all the problems.

I had considered digging wider, but I think the laurel roots will stop me in my tracks. I am currently in between them slightly forward and just missed them. Going deeper would be easier but something I'd need to get a digger in for.

I could bring it forward but that means going into the Grass which I want to avoid.  Not sure I could dig another 1x1x1m without losing the will  :D

I just had a quick look and I think I might get away with it if I went 0.5m out each side to miss the laurels, that would allow 4 crates along the bottom, making the hole 2x1x1m

I guess I'll need to dig to find out  :D

Would it work going 0.5m out one side only, having 3 side by side along the bottom, with the last one stacked with the 4th Crate.  The pipe inlet would be at the low side at the start of the row of 3, or is that just not going to work?

I am just thinking if I could get away with digging only another 0.5x1x1m rather that on both sides.

Managed to go out to one side 0.5m, the other side I’m stuck at 0.3m with roots.

I would get 3 creates in a row side by side no problem.

I could prob squeeze 4 in side by side if I rotated them so it was the 400mm side rather the 500mm on the side.

Other option is if the last in the row can be stacked on top of each other to get 4th in? Not sure if that would work tho?
