My neighbour used patio magic and was pleased with it, it's not cheap but l think you will be surprised at what difference it makes.
I used Patio Magic last year and worked really well.I did not find it expensive (£9.99) and I used about half of it,the rest I shall use this year!
I put it on with an old pasting brush.

Let's just say my neighbour is very careful with his money @madpenguin ! Every time he opens his wallet it's a shock for the moths. Nice man though, very helpful.

Does the run off have any effect on plants? @madpenguin

Before you think about climbing roses I would consider getting a builder to check the wall; in the far left corner looks like it needs repointing. This needs doing before you do much else.
Last summer there was someone on here who had a courtyard garden in the North East. He put up lots of photos, I'm not any good at finding old threads but someone else might.

As I apply it carefully with an old pasting brush I can be fairly precise on where it goes so it's OK unless you slosh it around.
It does kill small weeds between slabs so that is a bonus for me.
Do it on a dry day and there should be no run off.
    Just take your time!
