Grass or straw underneath soil?
Hello!
We recently moved into a new house. The property had been empty for over a year but the previous occupant had apparently had a nice garden, and we can see the outline of her old flower beds. We have begun digging them over and have discovered all this grass or straw within the soil (see photos).
My mum recons it is grass that has started growing out from the lawn whilst the garden wasn't being looked after the past 12 months. However, we do have quite sticky, clay soil so I'm wondering if somebody dug long manure in at some point in the past?
Should I pull it all out? There's masses of it, and when you find a big piece to pull, loads of it slips out quite easily.
Any tips appreciated!
