Peony buckeye belle bare roots

Hi
two peony buckeye belle bare root plants have today arrived in the post. I am hoping to plant them in my border tomorrow. Is that ok to do or should I wait? If I wait how do I store them?
also the instructions are to put the roots shallowly in the ground but it’s not obvious to me where the roots are. I have included a photo of the way I think they should be planted but would appreciate all advice.
Thanks.

the one on the left is upside down. The  one on the right is ok. At that size I would be inclined to pot them up rather than put them in the garden. The pink bit is the growth point from which the leaf and flowers will grow. It needs to be no more than an inch below soil level.

Thank you for the advice. So does the whole plant need to be below soil level?

You can see where the soil came up to on the base of the buds - the pink things. I would allow the compost to come a tiny bit higher so that the tips are poking out.

As said all that you have there should be below soil level except for perhaps the very tip of the pink bit.
  • Basically, use the pink tips to indicate which direction to plant--they should be pointing more or less upwards, slightly emerging above the soil level, and the rest can be buried.
