Can I mix fresh manure and partially rotted leaf mould?

Hi, I've a very large, spare, plastic compost bin that I filled with  leaves over a year ago, they are  decomposing, albeit really slowly. I've just "kindly" been given 2 big sacks of manure - straight from the horse if you know what I mean. I know it needs to "mature" and worry about what seeds may potentially be in there. Could I mix the manure with the leaves and use it as a mulch in the autumn? Or will it just become a nasty, sludgy mix full of ants and slugs?

You could mix it all up now and by the coming autumn, it should be ok to use as a mulch.  However, leaf mould is highly sought after stuff in its own right, so I would let that rot naturally and use it when planting or mixing it with other potting mediums. :)
A trowel in the hand is worth a thousand lost under a bush.

Sue & Mutton  Mind you, if you imagine a horse dropping his load on some fallen leaves, it won't create disaster?  Nature's the best guide book.

Take a small amount of each  and mix as an experiment and make a note of the timings and results.

Thats how I have made ALL of my mistakes but also learnt MOST of my wins.   B)
