Red robin eaten to stubs
Hi, HELP. Over winter 7 of my red robins were eaten down to little stems. As only planted last year I thought they’d just died. Last week I planted some more in to replace those. This morning I find 2 of those have been chewed to nothing again.
what could be eating them? How do I stop it?

Gardening in Central Norfolk on improved gritty moraine over chalk ... free-draining.
Last year (mild winter) wasn't too bad so I think the harsher weather we had this year might have contributed to the problem (easier to find food in a well stocked garden). Next winter I may try some chicken wire barriers around the most important shrubs - just to make it more difficult for them to eat.
