Pieris

Have replanted a Pieris from a patio container into the garden. I believe they like acid soil which my garden is'nt. Any advice on what to do to keep it healthy please . Thanx.

I had the same question last year. Best course of action was to put it back in a pot, it looks lovely in it anyway.

I think Iguerb is right but you can get sequestered iron which you add to water for acid loving plants but don't think it would be enough if your soil is very alkaline. Have you done a soil test as the soil can be different in places.

  • I had one in a completely different area of garden to another, one has really thrived, the other just looked very poorly for a long time. I transplanted it to where the other one is the other day, fingers crossed now.

I would say that if they don't like the soil they do really look very pitiful. It was in a raised wall  bed, I think the previous owners possibly filled it with builders rubble and not so much local soil. Astonishing the difference.
