What climber won't grow out wide?

So I have a blank wall I want to possibly put 2 trellis on to brighten up the wall. I don't want it to grow wide, I'd like it to stick close to the wall but I'd like there to be colour to it. I believe I have a North facing garden as it's fully shaded. What are my choices?

Any plant won't grow wide if you cut them back but vigorous growers will rebel against your efforts and make a mockery of you.

Google patio clematis as a first stab at "tame" climbers.  There is a wealth of solutions for all situations.

Type 3 Clematis. Cut back entirely in winter, then you can train the new growth as desired in spring. No gradual build up of tangled stems due to this.

    Chocolate vine Akebia quinata.
We have it growing outside the north face of our polytunnel. It can be cut back if needed.
