Topsoil or Compost?

Janie BJanie B Posts: 963
We have just received two bulk bags, one of 'peat-free topsoil' for a new flower bed, and one of 'fruit and veg compost' for the new raised beds. It's the first time we've ordered topsoil. They arrived unlabelled, but they look very similar! Can you tell is which?

    They are probably the same.
How can you lie there and think of England

B looks to have more woody bits and leaves in, so could be the compost? (I'm guessing!)

    A soil   B compost   I think 🤔

Well, there was not a huge price difference, so I guess it doesn't really matter too much if they're the same? I'll work on the assumption that A is the soil, and B the compost (and add in other manure too... )

Do I see a bar code on one bag. You could send a photo to your supplier and ask.

OH finally got through to the supplier, and sent photos. Pic A was confirmed as the topsoil, and pic B as the compost. Phew!
