What to do with last years Dahlias?

    Often they sprout but the slugs slice them off. Do something about the slugs and you might be surprised.
    I leave mine out. Soon, I will tip them out of the containers. If they're firm, they get fresh compost. If they're squishy, they get composted.
    In London. Keen but lazy.

    I leave my Dahlias in the ground as well. It's too soon to tell whether they've survived this winter though, it's been colder than any since they've been in. If not, it's an excuse for something new.
    Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained

    There's a difference between dahlias in pots and in the ground. Some people it's fine in their area to leave them in the ground, maybe with a mulch over.

    I personally leave mine in pots over winter and waterproof the pots and fleece. I had a peak today and there are no sprouts yet.
  • I have always killed all my dahlias too. There's one from last year in the cold frame but no idea if it's alive 🙂
    I left that one in the pot rather than drying etc. I think I killed the others with kindness.
