Can you identify this seed?

This seed has wafted across my garden. Can anyone identify it for me please.

  • Silver birch? No doubt other things could look like that too, but try an image search for 'silver birch seeds' and that's what they look like.

Silver Birch does seem likely. The original plot name was betula. It must be blowing in from a next door neighbour. Thank you.
  • I normally like to add a latin name as well (just so the whole world knows precisely what we're talking about, in case they don't have it, or call it something else), but I didn't this time. So I'm glad that you know that the birches are Betula.

Some of them will probably grow. I used to have a silver birch tree, but it was taken out years ago (replaced with a Mountain Ash / Rowan / Sorbus aucuparia which is smaller and more suited to the space). I still get silver birch seedlings though - don't know where the seeds come from - they usually germinate in my pots of carnivorous plants which are outdoors and soaking wet the whole time.
