Clear plastic crates

I have a couple of spare ones with lids and I'm going to turn them upside down to use as cold frames / propagators   along with the salad drawer and solid shelf out of an old fridge.

I use these plastic crates to hold my seedlings when they are ready to go out in early May, especially during the hardening phase. They are easier to carry them out in the morning and bring them inside at night.

I thought that would be a benefit too😊
I'm thinking now the crates would be better the right way up. What do you do @Eustace?

I find the green or black plastic trays sold with plastic cell trays for sowing are very flimsy and soon break but the clear plastic trays that come with a dozen chicken thighs or a whole fillet of salmon are sturdy and ideal cos I can use them over and under the seed trays and seedlings as they're potted on.

I have a metal bathroom shelf effort that I use in the porch. Some of the shallow plastic food trays are just the right size to fit on each shelf so I can rest the pots on them and they act as saucers.

Yes, I use them the right way up. When I pot on chilli and tomato seedlings, they come handy as I can put 15-20 9/7 cm pots inside them. I also use old underbed plastic storage units the same way.

Yes, I used clear plastic crates as make shift cold frames, and it worked well. In winter I wrapped them in white fleece and over wintered pellies and that worked well too.
