Can anyone identify this plant

Hi 😁. I have 2 lovely ‘shrubs’ in the garden which up to now have been lush and green. The have gone very brown & im trying to find out if they have died. However I as i dnt know what they are i cnt troubleshoot them. Can anyone help? They were soft and feathery and in spring last year had very tiny pinkish flowers. They are drying and dropping fine spines. Thanks!

This is how lots of grasses look over the winter.  You could chop off the brown bits (give it a good, straight, low-down haircut!), then wait and see what it looks like in the green - it should be much easier to identify.  A quick look on the RHS for a deciduous grass with pink flowers suggests it might be a Pennisetum or Miscanthus.

    It's not a grass.
How can you lie there and think of England
When you don't even know who's in the team

Hi 🙂.  Def not a grass.  They are woody stemmed. I thought it might be bullet bush - larentia- but theyre not that either. Im stumped

Could it be a frost damaged Diosma Ericoides?
  • Is it a type of Diosma?

I found my one died but this was helped by something trampling on it a few times.
