@Dovefromabove, l thought maybe it was a long term effect. Does that happen sometimes?

I don't know whereabouts you are but we have had a relatively mild winter followed by hard frosts and gales. I am seeing very similar damage on the same sorts of plants. Mine is a windy garden and most of the things that can survive it recover.
  • Thanks everyone for the advice. It seems like the damage may be down to frosts. We’ve had colder winters - we’re in the Scottish Borders - and the plants have survived but it has been very wet and our garden is exposed to strong winds. I have already cut the plants back so might have compounded the damage but will leave them in situ in case they recover. Fingers crossed

I've lost all the top growth and buds on a rhodie this year. First time it has happened here. The ground was frozen solid for 3 weeks in that part of the garden so i'm putting it down to that. There is fresh new growth lower down, but no flowers on that plant this year.

I can’t think of anything that would take many months to take effect.  Spraying on farms is done and is effective during the growing season.

It’s much the same as garden ... on a bigger scale 👍
