Help! Mature cherry canker worries

Our beautiful 50yr plus cherry tree is developing quite a wound and I was after some advice of how to treat it. I was going to start with a feed and then would an anti fungal wash and wood filler be a good idea? We had the tree braced a few years ago so this is not a structural issue but I really don't want to lose the main boughs. Any advice gratefully received.

That looks to be quite extensive damage so just removing the diseased bits isn't going to be easy. Is the affected branch within falling distance of the house? It looks a bit close for comfort so I would suspect complete removal might be the only safe option. If it is over 50 years old then it is coming to the end of its life anyway. I think professional advice from a tree surgeon is your best course of action.
  • Thank you @steephill, the branch wouldn't affect the house if the worse came to the worst but I think I might take your advice on the tree surgeon. Thank you.
