Is this a Bay tree and how to remove and replant?

hello.
I believe I have a large bay but would like confirmation if possible?
We are about to start an extension and so I would like to remove and replant. Any tips?
thank you.

It looks very much like bay - rip a leaf and have a sniff.

I'm say there's very little chance of diggin it out. It's been there too long and you'll not be able to get sufficient roots out.

Ps - if you're removing the paving around it then there's a chance you could move it. But you'd need to cut a lot of the top growth off or the roots will not be able to support all that top growth

Thank you Pete. And bugger, seems such a shame to remove and do nothing with it.
I’ll see what I can do.
    thanks again

See if there are any suckers coming from the base ... I've successfully rooted some of those in the past.

It looks great there. No harm in trying it elsewhere if it's got to go anyway.

Get those paving stones out first, will enable you to take more root.    It's very Mediterranean so shouldn't be too much transpiration so I reckon a fair chance of keeping it.   Get it into huge pot with moderately fertile well drained soil....keep semi shaded a while until you're happy it's going to survive. Good luck.
