Chilli flowering already

Hello, for the first time I've grown some
Chillis on my windowsill under a grow light. I started them in January and now one of them has buds and will soon start flowering - but its only about 6-7 inches tall and not very bushy. Should I let it flower or nip off the flower buds and let it focus on getting a bit bigger first? Its a devils brew chilli. Thank you!

  • Sounds amazing progress from a January start! I've no idea whether preventing flowers now might result in something better later, and my hunch is that the flowers won't be pollinated away, but I think I'd leave it to see what happens. I guess you have others that haven't decided to flower quite so early.

A few years ago, I grew from seed some varieties of 'seriously hot' chillies - Carolina Reaper, Bhut Jolokia, etc. Didn't get a vast crop, but dried them and still have them. It just takes a few slivers of dried chili to make most food almost too 'hot' to eat, so I reckon I've probably got a lifetime supply!
  • Oh thank you! I agree they will probably drop off - but I'm going to leave them and see what happens!

Your chillis sound amazing. I'm a bit terrified of the really spicy ones!
