GROWING POTATOES IN A CONTAINER

Do you need 3 separate containers to get three stages of potato -i.e. one container for earlies, one for second earlies and one for maincrop - or can you harvest all three stages in one container - ie the first you harvest will be the smallest, and the last you harvest will be the main crop? Sorry if this is a dfim question but i am a complete novice! Any thoughts are welcome.

Best to keep them separate because harvesting the earlies will disturb the laters.

Growing in containers is a great way to get easy spuds but you do have to limit the number of seed potatoes depending on the size of the pot.   You start off witha  layer of compost and the potatoes and add more compost as they grow to mimic the earthing up you would do in the ground and to increase your crop.  They need good feeding and regular watering too.

Good luck.  Watering is key for success.

As well as what @Obelixx says, the easiest way to harvest potatoes in a container is to tip out the whole lot.

I would put 3 in each bag. Last year I grew International Kidney and the results were disappointing, floury potatoes that broke up on cooking, so unlike shop-bought jerseys. My mistake was not watering enough.
