Dry new top soil for levelling lawn

I recently had the opportunity to obtain some good quality screened loose top soil for free that I was going to use for levelling my lawn. However, on the day I picked the top soil it rained persistently and now the top soil is wet and clumpy. Is there a way that I can dry the soil to a condition that it is spreadable and I can start to level my lawn or is it just time and I have to wait. There's approximately 3 tons of it!

    welcome to the Forum.
Can you cover it ( tarpaulin kinda thing ) during the wet weather and uncover it when it's dry?
Other than that, it's just a matter of patience .

Yes it is covered with a tarpaulin to prevent it from getting wetter but it does not appear to be drying much on the days I have been able to uncover it, and patience is not my strong suit.

I have read about adding lime to it to aid the drying but then it seems daft to be adding stuff to a soil that is already supposed to be very good.

I guess waiting is the name of the game then.

I'm afraid patience is the hardest lesson for us gardeners to learn  ;)
