How to Hide an Ugly Fence

  • Taking a gamble maybe but it's not the main garden, just some land we own at the side of the house (we didn't even know it was ours when we bought it house!). All I'm doing is hiding some concrete - the end result can't be any worse than that  :) We'll see
  • Forgot to add that there aren't actually any weeds, just grass, and I planted with compost.

Grass will easily out-compete small young shrubs. They'll grow faster if you can clear a strip of grass, the area between the row of laurels and the fence, and about the same distance in front. And if you decide not to keep a clear strip, be very careful if you mow or strim around the laurels. It's very easy to accidentally damage the bark and that can kill off even mature shrubs, let alone babies.
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • Thanks, I'll do that
