What to do with a surface wound

I’ve just taken delivery of a mature photinia red robin as a single stem tree. Unfortunately it got damaged getting into the garden and there’s a surface wound. I’ve removed the broken branch but now worried the open wound will cause disease. Is there anything that can be used as a treatment (that actually works) or should I just leave it to heal itself and hope for the best?!

It doesn’t seem to have gone too deep

I would leave it. It’s not ideal but applying anything will just cause a sticky surface for to bacteria and fungal spores to stick to. From what I can see I think it’ll callous over and heal itself. 🤞
