Frost damage on nectarine stem?

Can anyone advise if my nectarine tree (lord napier) has been damaged by frost or it is suffering from something else please? I've covered it with a fleece blanket whenever frost has been forecast but the blanket may have touched the stem during the night. The tree is on a south facing fence in East Sussex.  Any advice or guidance would be greatly appreciated, thank you.

I can't see it being frost. But doesn't look good, does it? If that stem fizzles out above the damage once it comes into leaf (just starting, I see), and finds out whether it can or can't transport water/nutrient past the damage, then cut it off below the damage. At least you've got other good stems, and some buds ready to grow shoots below the damage.

I don't think the stems of peach/nectarine/apricot have any problem with frost - it's the fact that they blossom early in the year (my apricot will be in flower shortly), so the open flowers can be frosted off.
  • Thank you Clarke.brunt I'll keep an eye on it and see how it gets on in the next few weeks.
