lleyandi trees thinning in the middle

I've had these trees for 20 years and they have always kept a thick coverage but this year I have noticed there is a thinning half way up - please see photo - anyone have an idea what is happening here, the rest of the trees remain thick. Many thanks.

Can't tell from the photo are the branches still there and the growth brown or are they now bare?
You have a lot of trees there and it might be down to lack of water over the last few summers.
Could be problems with the roots or  cypress aphids.
I think you need to get an expert in
  • Many thanks for the reply - I've attached a closer up photo - the branches are still there but don't seem to have anything on them. There was net fencing either side of the trees which has led to a large build up of old leaves front and back, I've removed this now but its been that way for many may years.
