Burying bramble sticks in raised bed

Hi all,

I've recently set up a fairly tall raised bed, burying bramble sticks and some apple tree prunings at the bottom to help fill some of the space before adding in the compost. The sticks are buried under a full foot or so of compost - is there any risk that they could root and grow? I've already planted over them.

Thanks!

I'd say, if they were still green, " very probably "

I agree. Brambles dont take much to root

If they were still green there is a very real likelihood of that happening.  A bramble shoot will start to root if it touches the ground so may think be buried is perfect conditions.

I have a tall (90 cm) raised bed it was filled with cuttings of thin/medium branches of green (!) trees and shrubs then compacted it down with a lot of stomping. Then filled up with compost, and then more stomping.  I don't think there were brambles in it but what they used did worry me for a while. It was filled with about two thirds in this way. I did this 2/3 years ago and I have had no problem with sprouting. Absolutely nothing. The method is called Hügelkultur and it is worth googling it I think, especially if you have a large bed.
