Lawn drainage and sand type
Hi guys,
So, garden is almost finished and I've gone to town on my lawn.
Recently installed some drainage, aerated due to clay, then I threw top soil on and levelled it off.
I need to aerate again once my lawn is established, then I need to ensure those holes are giving a good route down to the drains, as opposed to filling with soil.
Second problem, I made a lawn lute, but using top soil without sifting, I can only get it so level.
So, my question is all about sand.
Will adding sand allow me to really nail that final bit of levelling and will it help with the water route down the aeration holes?
If the answer to both are yes, I've read that grit/sharp sand is what I want, as this will allow drainage and also improve the clay soil structure underneath. Is this correct?
I would love a response from people who have successfully done this (not that other opinions and advice are unappreciated!).
Please feel free to suggest any techniques and tricks you've used to get that superb level on the lawn also!
Very grateful for any advice.
