North facing climbers

Which climber would be best to climb up a north facing brick house wall in a coastal area?

    Which coast and what kind of soil do you have?   Location and soil will make a huge difference to what will thrive.
    Vendée - 20kms from Atlantic coast.

    Hi Obelixx
    Its near the east coast of the Isle of Wight, it will be facing north east with cold winds in the winter🥶 I would like to grow a fragrant climber up a very dull front of the house, it will have to be grown in a large tub so I can’t put any soil necessary for the type of climber. Maybe a honeysuckle??

    I entered all that into the RHS Plant Selector feature and it came up with just one plant -

    Assuming you can find one, give it the largest pot you can, minimum 60cm square and taller if poss so it can get its roots down and then give it a good compost by mixing 3 parts John Innes no 3 loam based compost with 1 part MPC for moisture retention.  Water regularly and feed every year.

    There are some other good options for a northeastern wall. I know the rambler (rose) Albéric Barbier does very well on a northern wall, even in the shade. It blooms white, is fragrant and mostly keep its leaves throughout winter. Another option is Jasminum nudiflorum, but it might be a bit dull and untidy. A combination with a wall shrub might give year round interest?
