Advice on shape of allotment + general advice
Hi,
I am new to gardening but I have received a seed kit for Italian herbs and vegetables as a gift. I am planning to start sowing the seeds soon as most are in the right time frame now. I have biodegradable small pots which I plan sowing them in; am I right in thinking that if they don't get too big and need repotting, then they could be directly planted outside when they have grown to the right size whilst remaining in the biodegradable pots to avoid shock, as the pots will break down in the earth anyway?
I am planning on keeping my herbs inside on the windowsill but transferring the fruit and vegetable plants outside when they are big enough. I plan to grow tomatoes, peppers, green beans, cabbage and cucumber outside. If anyone could tell me which plant should go next to what, I would be very grateful.
I also need to prepare the ground outside as we used to have an out building standing where I would like to make the plot. The problem is, it is the bottom of the garden and will be a pain trying to harvest the fruit that are at the back of the plot, meaning I would have to stand on the plot itself to do so.
Instead, I was thinking that instead of making a square plot, I could do beds around the borders and let grass seeds grow in the middle. I will insert some images to represent what I am talking about. I would like to know whether the crops I want to plant would suit border planting instead of an actual square plot or if they need more space than I am thinking.
Thanks in advance,
Ellie
