I could dig 4 times and I reckon I'd still miss some

I closely inspected the soil yesterday and found it is riddled with bramble roots and those white roots and as I have now dug and chopped the soil there are just too many live roots to get out.

It would take me ages to hand pick them all out.

Not worth it for 40 potatoes.

    Thanks for your advice

Spuds are quite forgiving when it comes to weeds. You can cover the soil with cardboard then hoe and earth up as they grow which will keep the weeds down. Tatties and onions were always my favourites on my weedy plot as they were so easy to keep weed free.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.

Sounds like he just wanted you to clear his plot of brambles  :/

No he is a kind man but  suffers with MH and has Parkinsons and is a hoarder.

It would have been OK but time had over taken the soil.

Ok then ... we won’t send in the heavy mob 😉... it was obviously a well intentioned gesture. 😊

  • Honestly, I am only digging it to gain control as on my other plot. I agreed with removing the leaves and stems if there was any sign of blight but that's just good practice.
