Thank you for that , I have cut away the bottoms stems in order to give it space around the base of the plant and no grass surrounds it , I got plenty of huge flowers in spring just hope it’s the same next year, should I cover the whole bush with fleece over the winter months ? .
Whereabouts are you located, Carol? We are in Devon, and have never had to protect a camellia. Some of the established ones in the garden are taller than the house. The main thing they need this time of year is water, preferably rainwater, to help set the flowers for next spring. We’ve had enough direct from the sky this year, so haven’t needed to water our smaller ones.
Generally, Camellias don't need any sort of protection over winter. There are some that are slightly tender, but the majority are fully hardy for the average winter. To ensure you get flowers next year, keep up with the watering if there is lack of rain. Even with the amount of rain we have had lately, on evergreen shrubs, they may still need additional watering due to the rain shadow from the thick leaves.
