Help with olive tree

This is my first olive tree. It’s in a pot in the sunniest spot in my garden and has done well for two years, but emerged from winter looking like this.  The new growth at the top doesn’t look too good either. Is it a watering issue or something else? Should I be cutting back? Repotting? Any advice very welcome, thanks

I am defo no expert, but had similar problems withy my Olive a couple of years ago.  i think it was the wind that caused the brown leaves.   I have mine partly protected by the house, as it is in a corner between two walls and as it is in a big pot I top dress it each spring.   Take off about 2 inches of the soil at the top, loosen the lower soil, give it a good feed and then put new compost on top, bringing the level back to the original height.   I do not water during the winter unless it is a really dry one, but water it would gusto during the summer and give it a frequently feed with liquid seaweed.

No idea if any of this is right, but it now survives each year and has begun producing flowers. No olives yet, but it is still quite young.

I am sure there will be someone else with much more experience that will give you other advice as well.

  • Thank you! That sounds like just the sort of TLC it probably needs. Will get onto it.
