Calathea leaves still upright

Hi everyone i got a calathea ornata on the weekend and have put it in my sitting room where there enough indirect sunlight and consistent temperatures. But the leaves don’t ever seem to come down from the praying position. Can anyone tell me why? They weren’t down in the garden centre either they were in a plastic wrap. It looks healthy

It may just need time to settle in or it may be thirsty or in need of misting as they do like to be kept in a humid atmosphere.

The RHS offers this advice for their care so check if you have it in the best place -

    •  Originating from tropical regions, they like relatively stable temperatures (ideally above 15°C) and a well-lit position that does not get direct sunlight (think steamy jungle!). They like to be kept well watered, although this can be cut back a little in winter, and they thrive in high humidity, so either grow it in a steamy room, mist it with water regularly, and/or sit the pot on a tray of dampened shingle.

Calathea make terrible houseplants. They look so tempting in the shops after they've come from the environmentally controlled nursery but it must be a massive shock for them to be transferred into houses that are too cold and dry for them. Mist it regularly while it settles in and keep the soil moist which should help but you'll need to get into the routine of daily misting (several times a day if you can). I kept one happy and thriving for a couple of years but it just collapsed the first time the soil dried out.
If you can keep your head, while those around you are losing theirs, you may not have grasped the seriousness of the situation.
