Ideal Vegetables for south facing garden

ken378ken378 Posts: 3
Hi

I am fairly new to gardening and plan to grow vegetables in containers this summer.  I have a south facing garden which gets sun most of the day.  What are ideal veg I should aim to be growing and also which veg should I definitely avoid.

Also can I ask the same re herbs and fruit such as raspberries?

Many thanks

Ken

We're always told raspberries like cool, light positions to grow and plenty of rain which is why they do so well in Scotland so imagine my surprise on finding a long bed of raspberries in this, new to us, garden when we moved in.  Not so sure about growing them in containers tho as they do need some moisture at their feet and like to spread.

Mediterranean herbs such as rosemary and thyme like full sun but softer plants like chervil won't like it at all.

Your main problem with growing veg in pots is going to be giving them a good growing medium and keeping them consistently watered.  That may mean twice a day in hot spells.  This short article may help - https://organicgrowersschool.org/gardeners/library/container-gardening/

People always advise to grow the veg you really love most - don't faff about with things you don't want to eat a load of.
