Planting box hedging over black asphalt

I'm planting box hedging in my driveway and there is a layer of black asphalt roughly 6 inches under my planting spot. Will my box hedging be fine in a 15 cm raised bed above this, provided I mulch the soil with good compost?

I very much doubt it.  Apart from the lack of depth which will cause the roots of the box to be hungry, thirsty and baked or drowned depending on the weather, the chemical content of the macadam will be noxious.

I'm afraid you'll need to get busy with a crow bar or some such tool to dig it up or a plan B.
