    No, it is clay. It turns to concrete. The Isle of Wight has a fascinating variety of soil types but it excels in clay. Blue-grey, solid, wet and moving inexorably downhill. Clay.

    Has anyone suggested "make a pond"? I have an area of soil that is waterlogged in winter and thought I could turn it into a pond. It has slopes on either side of it so all of the water will eventually run down to it.

    There is a series of ponds and a stream and some springs in the field above, carrying water from the downs above that. Beautiful spot.
