I have a mature buddleia that I have just pruned and discovered fungus growth at the base. The branches that have the growth on them are brittle and break off easily. Can anyone tell me what this is and is it treatable? Many thanks Laura
The old branches with fungus on them are dead - old Buddleia stems don't last forever. It doesn't attack live branches, so feel free either to snap off the dead branches if it's easy, or just enjoy watching your fungus doing what it does (i.e. decay dead wood). I've got similar fungus (looks like a kind of bracket-fungus) on a old dead stem of my Forsythia which I'm leaving
