What's this plant

Hi everyone. Did anyone see the BBC 2 Gardener's World Special on Friday February 26th?
Monty was in the Writing garden and showing a white plant that was growing well in shade - sounded like syleecne / cylencee?? - but I couldn't make it out and would love to find out what it is. Can anyone help please

I haven’t watched, but maybe Silene? White campion?
  • Brilliant. YES - thank you so much for your swift reply. Looking at the photo that I took of the screen, the plants definitely have a Campion like flower. I must get some seeds!! Thank you again.

Silene. I think Monty's is a variety with more finely dissected petals than the wild white campion. Maybe Silene fimbriata?
Doncaster, South Yorkshire. Soil type: sandy, well-drained
  • Thanks Jenny. I've just looked at a website (Plant World seeds )and ordered some of the Silene fimbriata! I might also get some of the Silene alba for another area of the garden. Those are available on another site as plug plants and they could be useful in the new wildlife area we're creating. :)
