Citrus Fortunella Margarita (Kumquat) plant not doing so well... help please!

HopXHopX Posts: 3
Hello,

Up until a few weeks ago, we had a beautifully thriving plant, with a full flourish of healthy looking leaves and a sprinkling of fruit.

The leaves have now nearly all dropped off and is looking in a poorly state. Some of the lower leaves still look healthy lower down, but are still falling. Whereas the majority appear to have just withered. We brought it inside over winter, close to a window, so plenty of light, with a steady room temperature.

It's approx 70cm in height, and did seem well established.

Any ideas as to what we're possibly doing wrong, and how we can rectify the situation?

Thanks in advance.

Could be lots of things - too hot, too cold, too dry, too hungry, too wet........

Have a look a this general info on growing citrus plants as it will guide you on compost, temperatures, misting, feeding etc -

Thanks for the quick reply and reference point Obelixx

Appreciate it could be a multitude of conditions causing it... just incredibly frustrating.

Will have a good read through the RHS article.

    Hope it helps.

I have a lemon kumquat which lives in a pot near our front, south facing doorstep until the temps get low enough for it and a Meyer lemon to go into the polytunnel for the winter.  We've had some frosts here but they've been OK tho the kumquat did drop a load of fruit in the coldest spell.

I feed them with citrus feed in winter and water occasionally and while I'm there I rinse the foliage to keep them free of dust.

So far so good and, in the next few days, they'll be potted on into slightly bigger pots with fresh compost and will come back out once night time temperatures rise.
