What to do with mistreated / rubbled earth?

Hi everyone,
We had some building work done recently, and all the rubble was poured onto a patch of grass in our front garden, where it sat for months over the winter. I've now got this poor patch of what used to be grass. I've tried to get as much rubble up as possible, but its like gravel so is pretty hard!
Any thoughts on how to help it / salvage it? Wild flowers? Grass? I'd like a quick fix but I'm guessing that just throwing grass seed down isn't going to do much in this situation?!
Thank you all,
April
