Allotment Need Help

I been offers a allotment ,it’s 13 feet x31/2 feet wide,it’s raised up to waist height ,with a depth of 12 inches.I know nothing about allotments, but,I would love dearly to give it a go,I would like to start with the easier Veg and Fruit and some Herbs to grow,First of all ,can I get away with a 12 inch depth of soil etc ,to grow Veg etc? What mix of Soil,Compost,Manure should I use to start of?I have a lot of Double Glased Glass, can it be used to any useful purpose on the allotment?Could some members of this Forum, kindly draw up a programme from start to finish ,the best way to work this allotment for a novice?it would be greatly appreciated. It’s also windy where the allotment is,will this be a hindrance,as to what I can grow,A lady is giving me free Mushroom Compost,is it useful? Also ,me and my friend, have been offered some flat ground to grow whatever we want, how would I prepared this ground for growingVeg and Fruit?I have easy access if I need to bring in large amounts of Soil/Compost,All help would be appreciated.

Hi, we recently bought the book 'Veg in One Bed' by Huw Richards. It has a full plan for the year for how to plant a raised bed. It is broken down by month. It looks really great and we are very happy with it. Perhaps you could adapt it to fit the size or your plot.

    1. Clear the site of weeds. You may have to use glyphosate  (RoundUp).
    2. If you don't do this now, you will be fighting a losing battle for the rest of your life.
    3. Try everything, but not yet. I wouldn't plant anything in an allotment until you have done 1. and 2. and then not before Mid-April. RoundUp takes about a month to work anyway. If you haven't already got one, get a dutch hoe. You will need it.
    4. You don't say what you would like to grow. Most people grow veggies, but an allotment is ideal for cut flowers, which can be untidy in the garden.
Allotments are not easy to look after, but the rewards easily recompense. The very best of luck! Protect your back from too much digging...

I’m not clear about what you’ve been offered ... an area of land 13’ x 3.5’ ... waist height with a depth of 12” is this some sort of large raised bed?
