Bamboo

Looking for some advise, one of my clients has corten planters 50cmwide by 95cm deep and wants to plant for screening I have been looking at Bamboo, possibly black but have since found out it looks like cannot survive below 2c, any tips whether bamboo would cope with this size planters welcome. I also wondered whether I needed to worry about clump forming as the planters where so deep.  I'm really interested if you have any other ideas for evergreen screening.  They will be in sunny exposed site in Devon, thank you.

If you are referring to Phyllostachys nigra mine survived the winter 2010/11 very well but they really don't like a windy spot as their leaves get very ragged and brown.
Hope the planters have good drainage as bamboo likes a lot of water.

I also had P nigra in the garden for years and it survived way below -2.  I removed it because it was intertwined with P Aurea which had made a bid for freedom and had to come out.

Something like fargesia robusta may be better for an exposed site.
