What seeds are you growing?

  • I grow flowers and try to save the lawn from weeds, when I gain a little more experience I want to grow fruits, vegetables, and herbs.

  • I want to try and grow quite a few herbs this year so am going to get those started. I have basil, marjoram, chamomile, mint (in its own pot as i know how it spreads!) etc. I have a thyme that needs re-potting as its in a trough used for herbs currently that needs re-doing as they have gone over or got woody.

Lots of planting and little jobs to do this weekend and I'm so excited. My conservatory overnight however is going to look a nightmare, just take them all outside in the morning for light and bring them back in early evening.

Its a labour of love but hopefully we are getting a greenhouse erected beginning of April so that will help!!

@PurpleRose  I use Indian Marigolds and Basil at each end of my tomato rows, around the kitchen door garden etc.  in the hope that it repels mosquitoes.  If it says so on the label - well .....
It is always worth a try. You never know.

@Fire I agree that borage is not keen on being moved so best to show direct in the ground. Same with Love in a Mist

Same with Love in a Mist

Good to know. Best sown where they are to grow.
  • Oooh good to know, will try both ways to see which is successful. We have a tendency for things to go well where they shouldn’t and vice versa!!!

I have selected my seeds ready to go out tomorrow - very excited that’s for sure!

I'm trying a few unusual things including sedum voodoo. asclepia (which probably won't flower for another couple of years), amaranthus caudatus (which should be a lovely plummy colour and Isoplexis canariensis, a sort of rusty coloured foxglove.  You only get 10 seeds in a packet and they are hard to find so I'm keeping my fingers crossed.  I've quite a few germinated already and watching them closely every day for when they develop their first true leaves to start pricking them out.  Then the fun starts to find space in the kitchen for them (and I suspect the bathroom windowsill will also be pressed into service) before I can start hardening them off. I've got quite a few more to sow, including a few veggies.

It's my first attempt at marigolds @PurpleRose so it's all an experiment this year. I've read a lot about all the good qualities that they bring to the garden so fingers crossed that they distract, repel or sacrifice themselves for the good of the cause ;)

Hi - I have sown a few Goji seeds in a pot which is in my conservatory at the moment.  Apparently, it needs to be  planted somewhere on its own.
A good hoeing is worth two waterings.
