ohhh thanks for all this - even your conversation is helpful !! Its currently 15 in the greenhouse now at 16.15 and earlier was 20 degrees - I have not used the greenhouse yet as only got it in Dec - have some fuchsias in there at the moment - so I have put the tomato and aubergine and sweetie seedlings by the open back door for the day and will do that for the rest of the week and then will pot them on burying their stems and keep upstairs unheated and will try and get sweetness hardened off ( how long should that take) and then take them to the greenhouse ...
It really depends on where you are and how cold it gets in your neck of the woods, as to when to put them out. I never put anything out that has just been transplanted ( stress) for a couple of weeks. My tomatoes will have been potted on at least twice, and be about 30cm tall before going in the greenhouse, which will take till mid April, at that point they will go straight into their final planting place. I have found that seeds in the cold greenhouse sit and wait till the air warms up before putting any real growth on , and as tomatoes and cucumbers need as long a season as possible , getting them this far before going out speeds them up, I start picking late July and finish in October. P.S. @selinasally it's not the day time temps that matter its the night ones and the difference between them.
As your sweetpeas have been sown indoors put them out in the greenhouse during the day and bring them in at night for about a week to harden them off then you can leave them in the greenhouse 24/7 until your ready to plant out at the end of April/May.
