transplanting large holly

I have a large holly that unfortunately needs to be moved/removed.

it’s currently around 8ft tall, the tree has three main trunks which offshoots from the center at the bottom, the center appears to have been cut away and rotted to the ground before I owned it (picture below),due to the size it’s unlikely the whole thing can be moved.

Is it possible to move one only one or two of the trunks assuming I move a large enough portion of the roots with it.

I’m expecting to hear it’s a long shot however I’d like to say I tried to save it.

thanks

I’m sorry ... I agree with @Silver surfer ... not a hope without the extensive and expensive equipment used by the experts who move massive trees for Chelsea and other special planting schemes.

I agree with the others that there is no way that holly can be moved. If you want to keep it, it has to stay where it is. I am curious, though - what is the reason for needing to move it?

If you have any berries from the tree (although I would imagine they are all gone by this time of year - even assuming it is a female tree), you could try planting these. Alternatively, if you can wait, you could take cuttings from the tree in August/September and propagate it that way. Bear in mind, though, that holly is slow growing, so you wouldn't have a big tree straight away.

What I would do is to google and find some local wood turners/crafts people ... holly is a wonderful wood for bowls ... and commission a bowl to be made from the wood of your tree ... you might even find someone who would do it in exchange for the timber

that way you have a beautiful reminder of your tree and the 'life' of the tree goes on.   :)
