What are folks doing towards Spring gardening?

My plans in motion are colours, more pots and less pruning, bulbs, potatoes and more relaxing as the weather gets better.

Relaxing? In the garden? There is always something that needs doing which makes it impossible to sit still and enjoy the view.
  • De-weeding areas I've neglected, cleaning my pots ready for veggies and then getting ready to sow! I also installed a new raised bed for veggies so have been preparing that, now waiting for new compost mix to be delivered. Exciting times!

Leeks, onions, tomatoes and pepper seeds sown and up. Lobelia and pansy seeds up. 100 strawberry plants re- potted and runners potted up.
Gardening on the wild, windy west side of Dartmoor.

Trying out some different coloured tomatoes this year.  Yellow, orange striped, green and black striped, blue as well as the ordinary red tomatoes.  Plus the black ones that have become standard over the last 2 years.  Some are cherry and plum, others are just standard.  Also mini peppers, mini aubergines and mini cucumbers are on the list.

Sown lots of seeds, flowers and veggies. Waiting for my strawberries to arrive as well as things like cannas and hostas. Sorted out a horrible fence with some screening and cut the hedges back before the birds start nesting. Next job is to clear away some rubbish then get all my new pots (freecycle) cleaned ready for my new babies to go in then onto cleaning the greenhouse

The weather was lovely at the weekend so I was out a lot of the time. I had a good tidy up of my flower beds and weeded. I have fee my Rose's and given them a good mulch

  • Minimalist layout planning has been a focus but like a few here, planting seeds is a task underway since last week of Feb with some ideas from around the web. I may add the mini peppers idea to my list as I have not tried to grow those. My list has updated now to CUCUMBER, BEETS, CARROTS, TOMATOES, PEPPERS, BEANS.
  • I keep my seed packets in an old shoe box with dividers for each month of the year. One job I have done is to sit and go through all of the packets checking the Best before Dates and throwing out any outdated packets. Have replaced with new packets of new varieties or tested and tried old favourites.
Clearing up dead "stuff". Checking and replacing where necessary containers, repotting and weeding. Clean floor of greenhouse, washed it down in the autumn. Dig and feed veg. patch, creosote sleeper steps again, etc. etc. etc!
