Possibly stupid water feature question

First garden centre trip of the year today, bought some nice hebes, dwarf evergreen rhodos and a few periwinkles for ground cover, then saw a very lovely water feature, not too tacky, would be suitable for birds to use if they chose, nice sounds.

What I don't get it is how people have these in their garden without having power cables trailing all over the place?  it comes with a 10m cable, I'd want to put the water feature near the bottom of the garden and my outdoor plug is on the side of the house, I'd have to run an extension through the garden gate and put the connection in a dry box in a flower bed!

Am I missing something?  How do people put these in without having ugly cables in the way all summer?

Hi @FlyDragon you could use armoured cable and either bury it underground, normally at the base of a fence where you are unlikely to dig. Or tack it discreetly to the fence.

Thanks I'll have a look for armoured cable.  Problem is it has to go through the garden gate and I can't think how to do that without it being a trip hazard (along the floor) or very unsightly (across the top). Any ideas?

Tricky one that. Have you got a photo of the area around the gate?

I'll have a look... probably not might have to get one tomorrow.

Basically there is a 6ft brick wall linking the corner of the house to the corner of the detached garage wall, it follows the line of the house if that makes sense?  The gate is in this wall.  The outdoor socket is on the side of the house nearer the front.

Makes sense. Is it all concrete? I have a cable running from my house to a detached garage. Its at a height of approx 6.5ft. Most people dont even notice its there as its run across a tensioned wire which is attached to the house at one end and the garage at the other. I'll try and take a photo tomorrow to show you.

Has anyone tried a solar powered pump? Would it be strong enough to power a water feature?

There were some solar powered water features on display in the garden centre today but they were all quite small so I imagine there's a limit to what they can do in terms of volume?

I run a cable through a hole in my shed wall. My mini pond and pump is right next to the wall so the cable doesn't have to run very far. I run anti-anti sonic devices the same way. My pump is on a tiny voltage so I don't worry much.

I just can't see any way to run a cable without it getting in the way of where people need to walk, don't want the window cleaner tripping on it and suing me!
